10:45 AM
Hector Fielding noticed a scrap of paper floating his way during study hall. He glanced across the room, where he knew Omar Briggs was sitting. The brown-skinned boy’s glasses magnified the light shining from his eyes enough that the otherwise inconspicuous act of telekinetically passing a note across the room was quickly drawing the attention of the other students in the room. Hector grabbed the note before anyone would notice that the note was meant for him, and he read it to himself. He smiled and gave a slight nod to Omar, who was now sweating from the effort of using his power. Omar’s expression brightened just a bit, so Hector knew he noticed.

12:10 PM
Before heading to lunch, Omar stopped at his locker to drop off a few textbooks. When he noticed Hector standing a few feet away, he cleared his throat. The white jock looked up from his phone and nodded as he slipped into an unoccupied classroom behind him. Omar joined him after he finished up at his locker.
“You wanted to talk, huh?” Hector said. “Why not just text me?”
Omar blushed. “I wanted to practice using my powers.”
“Your powers aren’t exactly discrete, you know.”
“Oh, did someone see me?”
“Everyone was staring at you. Lucky thing I saw the note before anyone else did or we’d be found out.”
“I, uh, probably shouldn’t have drawn the heart at the bottom then…”
Hector snorted. “No harm, no foul, Omar.”
“I guess. Anyway, I wanted to, um…”
Omar hesitated, and Hector raised his eyebrows.
“So you’re throwing a party, right?” Omar asked.
“Yeah, it’s going to be pretty big.”
“Can I come with? I haven’t been to a single party since…” Omar paused to think. “Elementary school, I think.”
“I dunno, Omar, it’s not really your crowd,” Hector replied.
Omar glanced around the room, first at the windows, then the door. Seeing that there was no one else in sight, he stood up on his tiptoes and kissed Hector on the cheek.
Hector’s face turned red. “W-well, I mean, I guess I can, uh… S-sure. If you want.”
“Thanks so much, Hec!”
“N-no problem…”

2:50 PM
Hector was the last guy out of the locker room today, and he was surprised to see Omar standing nearby, nonchalantly reading something on a bulletin board. When he heard Hector clear his throat, he turned around and gave his boyfriend a small smile.
“You’re really pushing it close to the bell, aren’t you?” Hector said quietly.
Omar didn’t even say the words aloud. He just mouthed them: “You’re worth it.”
Hector blushed. “C-come on, what if someone sees us here?”
The nerd shrugged. “You’re popular enough to diffuse the situation without much effort.”
Hector rolled his eyes. “I’m not that popular.”
“You’re too modest,” Omar said. “But that’s beside the point. I just wanted to see you.”
Hector laughed. “You dork.”

3:30 PM
The bell rang, signifying the end of the school day, and Omar pulled out his phone on his way to his locker. He sent a quick text to Hector asking if there was a dress code, then grabbed his things. Hector replied about three minutes later to tell him to wear something nice.
He was so excited for the party that he almost didn’t notice as a car drove by, nearly hitting him. The driver swore at him, but it couldn’t bring down his mood. He walked home with a skip in his step.

9:15 PM
Hector glanced at his watch. The party had been going for about half an hour and he hadn’t seen Omar yet. Part of him hoped Omar wouldn’t make it. High schoolers can be cruel, and Omar wasn’t exactly fond of loud music like Hector had playing for his classmates.
Then he saw Omar by the punch. Talking to someone, to a girl with pale skin and long dark hair. Hector couldn’t remember her name. But she was awfully close to Omar, and Hector felt a flare of jealousy. He knew it was probably nothing, but it still pissed him off to see her so close to Omar. That was his boyfriend she was “mingling” with.
And then he started to worry. He knew Omar wasn’t just into guys, and it would be so much easier, so much safer for him to date a girl. And as much as he wanted Omar to be safe, he didn’t want to lose him. Hector loved him.

11:05 PM
Omar wasn’t sure where Hector was. But Nora wasn’t giving him an opportunity to go look, and he didn’t want to risk being too obvious about the nature of his relationship with Hector.
God, does she ever shut up? Omar wondered. He had a sneaking suspicion that she was a little tipsy. Which meant it was a good thing he hadn’t had more than a few sips of his punch before he noticed.
Nora was telling him about something she’d overheard during lunch, but Omar was barely listening. He was already a little overwhelmed by all the noise, and it didn’t help that apparently she was a touchy-feely sort of drunk, the kind of drunk who forgets that some people like a bit of personal space. But she was also his partner on a project, and he wasn’t willing to risk making her mad at him. That would make working together extremely awkward and stressful. He just hoped she didn’t intend to stay all night.

12:35 AM
The party had just started to die down, and Hector hadn’t taken his eyes off Omar and what’s-her-face all night. He’d been sneaky about it, making sure no one would realize he was watching them and keeping out of Omar’s sight. When the girl’s friends finally dragged her away from the punch, he noticed how tense Omar was.
The realization that Omar was deeply uncomfortable with the interaction made Hector feel like a piece of shit for being jealous so easily. He was surprised that Omar hadn’t left yet though. Omar normally would have turned tail and ran from something stressful like this, but for some reason, he hadn’t.
Before long, there were few enough people at the party that Hector was able to shoo them out. He hoped none of them took notice that Omar was still there.
“Hey,” Omar said, blushing when he noticed Hector standing next to him.
Hector couldn’t help himself. He wrapped his arms around Omar.
“W-whoa, what’s this all about?”
“You look really dashing in that tux,” Hector said, finally checking his boyfriend out properly. “It’s a bit more formal than I was thinking, but I’m not complaining.”
Omar looked away sheepishly. “And you’re as hot as ever, Hec.”
Hector kissed Omar on the lips. This was the first time he’d ever kissed anyone like that, and he savored the moment. Then they pulled apart, and Hector exhaled.
Suddenly Omar’s phone rang. “Oh crap, it’s my mom. I didn’t tell her I’d be out all night.”
